South Alabama Snow Day

Wait, what! We have "snow" in Mobile!

Most people would think that we are crazy for calling the past few days "snow" days, but it is the closest thing to snow we ever have this deep in the south. We really got more ice with a flurry or two mixed in but that doesn't mean we couldn't have fun! We got Tuesday and today (Wednesday) off school as well as tomorrow until 4:30 PM. Most of our precipitation occurred Tuesday and Tuesday night, but the roads are practically a sheet of ice which means we are staying put. People up north may think we are crazy for calling school off and closing businesses but we don't have the resources or material to clear the roads in these conditions.

We are making the best of staying put. Monday lots of baking happened in my apartment. We made homemade cookies and a Reese's Peanut Butter Trifle. Tuesday morning we made breakfast casserole and muffins. Tuesday was full of doing a little homework, playing board games, and watching movies. We even played in the ice a little as well. Tuesday night Emily (one of my roommates) and I went for a walk around campus. This walk turned into sledding past midnight. We had a lot of fun! There were numerous people sledding on this wintery mix of stuff. We don't see white precipitation in any form very often so we had to take advantage of it. We used bin lids, trash can line, pizza pans, cardboard, mattresses, and kneeboards to sled down the hill at the intramural fields. Lots of fun to be had!

With all this really cold weather, it can cause me some problems and pain. Arthritis is no fun and that is something that comes with Crohn's Disease for many patients. I have it in my back and hips and this cold weather causes me to have a lot of pain! I still try to have a lot of fun with my friends, but It can be difficult at times to go out at times.

I have enjoyed these few days off of school, catching up on sleep, watching movies, playing games, and doing some homework. I am thanking the Lord for keeping all of us safe, especially my brother. He is doing a co-op in Birmingham and got to spend the night at work last night. After an hour and a half drive for ten miles he made it safely home. Thanking God for safety and this much needed time to rest. Here are a few pictures from our snow/ice days.

A little blurry, but the roomies, mine one, playing in the ice.

Midnight sledding adventure

This is just the beginning of the ice.

Hope everyone is staying warm and for those of us in the south, enjoy your last "snow" day of this week!
